starting out, you can’t just grab any hook. You want to choose the right

options to choose from. But for beginners, it is a good idea to start of
with an H/8 (5mm) hook that is made of aluminum. The size and
material of this hook is comfortable to hold in your hand, making the
movements of crocheting easier than using the smaller or larger
options. With time and experience, you can choose other hooks as
your skills progress.



Not all yarn is created equal. For your first project, we recommend
choosing DK (double knitting) yarn. It is not too fine or too thick. Also
go with a smooth, light-coloured yarn. If you use dark or fuzzy
material, it will be harder to see your stitches.

When you are starting out, it is only normal to make
mistakes—blunders that will force you to undo your work. So, try to
hold off on picking up that pricier, elaborate yarn for now. Instead, buy
some of the less expense acrylic material. It is a terrific yarn that will

not only save you some money, but also provide a great option to
practice with while you hone your skills.


When you get to the end of your first project, you will need something
to cut the yarn. And sure, the household scissors will do fine for now,
but they always seem to go missing or go dull when you need them
