Visiting Vancouver Island

Wool & Waves is located in Cumberland, BC - a terrific Village in the heart of the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. We respectfully acknowledge that we are standing on the Unceeded traditional territory of the K’òmoks First Nation. We are grateful to the first people of Canada who have been stewards of this land since time immemorial.

The Island is home to beautiful beaches, lush rainforests and rugged mountains. Our village, Cumberland sits at the foot of Mount Washington and is a haven for mountain bikers and skiers.

In addition to being a fantastic spot to live, our island is a popular holiday destination. Tips from locals are a fantastic way to get the most out of your Island time so here are some of our favourite places to visit on Vancouver Island.

Our favourite local beach: We have yet to visit a beach we didn’t love but if we had to pick, we love to swim at a little spot tucked away just a few minutes from our house. We can give you directions if you come for an in-person shopping appointment (more on that below).

Our favourite Vancouver Island Beach: There are just too many to choose from but we love the beaches on the Western side of the island around Tofino.

Best cup of coffee: Americano from The Grind - a local fave in the Comox Valley.

Best Bakery: Church Street Bakery and the Cumberland Village Bakery

Best Seafood: There is nothing like fresh seafood from Fanny Bay

Best Ice Cream: Loves Ice Cream in Cumberland.

Best yarn shop: Well you already know the answer to that one. Yarn Tourists! We’re pleased to offer in-person shopping appointments. Do you want to come in and shop the 'warehouse' aka the garage? Looking for the perfect yarn in the perfect colour and want to see it in person "just to be sure"? We would love to have you visit us in person! Please choose the date and time from our calendar and Christine will host you at her house, walk you through the 'warehouse' and help you find yarn for your projects!

Other MUST DOs on Vancouver Island

Erin lives in Alberta but took her family to meet the ocean a few years ago. She highly recommends the Victoria Bug Zoo as an unusual Island stop. Spiders, cockroaches and Canada’s largest ant colony… oh MY!

Often known as ‘Goats on the Roof’ the Old Country Market in Coombs is a fun stop. It started as a fruit stand and has morphed into a combination of food and shopping with goats… on the roof!

Butchart Gardens is a 55 acre display garden and National Historic Site. Started in 1904 in the remnants of a limestone quarry, the Gardens have something to offer no matter what season you visit in.

Visiting 40 Knots Winery or the Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse are great ways to enliven your time on the Island and bring home a lil’ somethin’ somethin’.
